William's Post

Hey there, I'm a soldier in Alexander the Great's army. I consider Alexander great because of his great courage and care for his soldiers. It may not have seemed like he cared about us when he decided to keep us marching for nine more years, but he always led our army into battle on the front lines which requires great courage to be so prone to injury. He did get injured a few times, but he still continued to lead the way. Some people questioned whether he was actually great because he was responsible for killing tens of thousands of people. I think he has a vision of what he wants the world to be which is what causes him to be so determined in what he's doing. He never lost a battle which shows his military knowledge and skill. He is also very caring and concerned about us. Sometimes he comes and talks to us when we're at camp or marching. One time me and him were talking about the persians and their culture. This is when I learned that he had married a Persian woman. He told me about the all the different people he had met when we were conquering foreign lands. He created model-cities as we went along our conquest for the world as it seemed to me. These model-cities were based off of the hellenistic cultures, which he created by blending other cultures that he had come across when we were conquering the different lands. These model-cities were often named after him, an example would be Alexandria, Egypt. In these cities he attempted to create a hybrid of Greek and Persian cultures which helped his cause because many of these cities existed for a long time and gave him a long-lasting legacy. This is important because he was considered cruel by other civilizations because of his massive killing spree, which was countered by his spreading of cultures which was seen as great to the rest of the world. The blending of cultures is necessary for a truly diverse world and civilization. The more diverse a group is, the more ideas they will have which in turn creates a much more interesting world with many more successes. I truly believe that Alexander deserves the title "The Great".

Alexander the Great could be compared to Martin Luther King Jr. in the regard of being a great leader. Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream of what America should be and he peacefully protested along with many others to get his way. Alexander the Great also had a vision of what he thought the world should be. Alexander shared the same determination that MLK did which is why they were both successful in their missions. They both changed the world and left a lasting legacy that is viewed as "great" by many people today.

  1. I agree that just because you kill people does not mean you are a bad person. Many good people killed a lot of people. George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Dwight D. Eisenhower were all great people but still killed people when it came to war and foreign relations.
