Alexander is called the great because he has done amazing things, but also terrible things.While i have been under his command we have conquered many countries and became very powerful, but he is forcing us soldiers to travel thousands of miles without stopping to be able rest or visit with our families.He is called great for multiple positive reasons. One is that he stopped the Persian from taking over Greece. Another reason is that when he took over areas he did not take away their administration and put ours in. He also had many bad sides, when i have been around him he has had a very bad temper and also would drink a lot, which put together caused violence. Once he got into a argument while drunk with our commander of cavalry and killed him, along with others he killed in anger. Alexander also made us soldiers get married and have kids with the women in the areas we took over, few of us like that and we want to marry the women where we are from. The thing he did that made him stop his aggression was when he tried to get us to take over India. All of us were very tired and wanted to go home so we did not obey him, he eventually got over it and let us go home.
The blending of cultures in Alexanders army did not work out that well. Once us soldiers conquered places he wanted us to marry and have children with the women in that area. Alexander made all of us marry the women but once he died all of us but Seleucus left the asian women. The reason was that he wanted the army to be linked to the people legally. He wanted that so he could make Asia more federal, rather than individual kingdoms
Alexander was very powerful and accomplished amazing things, but also did terrible things. A person that was a lot like him is Adolph Hitler. After WW1 Germany was in debt from destroying so much and spending all their money in the war. Adolph Hitler came into power and restored Germany's economy. Doing that Hitler was named one of the best people alive and worshipped by his people. Later in time in right before WW2 Hitler caused the holocaust, which let everybody see his evil side and ruined his reputation as a good leader to a cruel dictator. Alexander the great did things like Hitler did. Alexander conquered many countries and made Macedonia very powerful, but in order to reach that he also did horrible things. Alexander forced his soldiers to keep on invading until they refused to and he eventually let them stop. He also killed anyone who disagreed with him or did not follow his orders.
I did not know that Persia was attacking Greece when Alexander began his conquering. In a sense he saved and hurt Greece at the same time :D

ReplyDeleteI like yours but I disagree with how he was really bad. I think that he was very good with what he did and how he conquered everything. He was a little crazy but he still built one of the strongest empires in ancient history.
ReplyDeleteI like how you talked not just about all the great things he did, but also the terrible things he did. Most people only talk about his great accomplishments, ignoring the fact that he did some bad things too. His soldiers never get a break, and have no time to rest with all of the battle they fight.
